In a March 2026 blind evaluation the company commissioned, its output won 94% of head-to-head test groups across 16 language pairs. Treat that number as a vendor claim, since the tests were run by DeepL. Independent reviewers have generally placed its European language output near the top for years.

Drop in a PDF, Word file, PowerPoint deck, or spreadsheet, and DeepL translates it while keeping the original formatting, layout, and visual context. Images work too, which covers screenshots, signs, and scanned menus. The catch is volume. The free plan manages one file a month, and the file size ceiling climbs only as you move up the plans.

Where a language distinguishes formal and informal address, DeepL lets you pick which one the output should use. That single toggle fixes a problem machine translation usually creates, where a business email comes back sounding like a text to a friend. Small feature. Big time saver.

You can build a glossary of terms and their approved translations, then apply it across projects. Product names, legal phrases, and internal jargon stay consistent instead of drifting between documents. Free accounts get one glossary with five entries per language pair, which is enough to test the idea but not much more.

DeepL Write is a writing assistant that suggests rephrasing, catches grammar and spelling issues, and lets you set style and tone. It lives alongside the translator, so you can translate a draft and then tighten the wording without switching tools. It's included with Business and Enterprise plans and sold as a paid add-on for Individual and Team users.

Translation plugs into Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Workspace, and several CAT tools, plus browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Desktop apps cover Windows and macOS, and mobile apps cover both major phone platforms. The point is where the feature sits: inside the app where you already write, not in a separate tab.

The DeepL API lets developers send text and documents through REST endpoints, with language detection and CAT tool support. A free Developer tier covers one million characters total for testing. The Growth plan starts at $26 per month billed annually with 12 million characters a year, plus usage-based pricing beyond that.
